Digital Remote Interaction
The transition to exceptional conditions pushed many companies to digital platforms. Workshops, meetings and training’s were redesigned, and work methods and tools had to be thought out to suit the situation. How does the interaction work remotely.
Give a thumbs up to a colleague’s presentation
Adequate and clear communication and the activating interaction methods of modern remote tools play an important role in the successful remote work of work groups. Good routines can affect the efficiency of information flow. For effective interaction, mutually agreed interaction channels and the rules of the game are always needed. However, it is important to be aware that what might work face-to-face in a chat, may not bring results at all remotely. It is very important for employees to feel that their supervisor and co-workers care and listen regardless of their location.
We need to find new ways to replace non-verbal communication and successful face-to-face body language. Just a simple smiley or a thumbs up while the remote performer is speaking shows that you are listening and present. At best, remote work increases the employee’s experience of the opportunity to influence their work. Many may feel that they are better heard in written communication. This is also one method when normally different work groups are in the same space. If only one or a few are present, and the others don’t get enough to speak, sometimes it can be more effective to get everyone’s voice heard by collecting the answers in writing.
Active communication
Remote or hybrid work requires the creation of clear rules of the game. A supervisor working in the same space is not a prerequisite for good management or supervisory work. The co-worker and also the supervisor must be reachable and it is important to feel like a part of the work community, regardless of the place. Right now it is even more important that no one is forgotten somewhere behind a remote curtain in favor of their own happiness, but that we are actively in contact with everyone.
The clarity of remote meeting assignments and pausing facilitates a good workflow. When the video cameras are open and the participants see each other’s expressions and gestures: the interaction is truly present. However, it is advisable to agree on the use of the video in advance to avoid situations where the participant is wearing a bathrobe and their hair is up. It is also important that everyone gets to speak, just like when exchanging information at the beginning of close meetings. This improves the atmosphere and creates a basis for a natural conversation.
