Finding Your Quiet Space
There are times in life when the excess noise becomes too much. We live in a society where we are expected to always be on. This is why I enjoy taking time to find a quiet space where I can reflect and just be. Sometimes I find this tranquility curled up in a chair reading a book, sitting outside with a warm cup of tea, or taking a nice long walk with my dog. On other days, it’s spending quality time with a good friend, disconnecting from social media, and being present at the moment.
I recently set aside some time to nurture my soul and spent six lovely days away from social media, away from the blog, to be with my best friend and her babies. We ate breakfast and dinners together, sipped on homemade iced tea on the front porch, and played card games vertexemarketing.com; all infused with endless hours of talking. We were living a slow life and I enjoyed every.single.moment.
Returning home, I immediately dove back into my normal routines, creating my to-do lists and trying to check everything off so I felt a sense of accomplishment for the day. But why? Why did I feel the need to do this; to wait until a vacation to taste a piece of the slow life? Why, in the past, did I need to wait for that moment when I started to feel overwhelmed in order to give myself the okay to slow down?
I spent a considerable amount of time pondering this and a realization formed. Yes, being productive makes me feel accomplished, but does complete a to-do list really equate to happiness? Maybe for some, but for me, the answer is NO.
So, I made a decision: to start conscientiously making time each day to create a quiet space. I add one or two quiet space times to my to-do list. Scheduling thirty minutes to get lost in a good book, finding and making a delicious recipe, and/or sitting quietly outside, taking in nature in all its beauty with no distractions. As a result, I have found myself happier, more energetic, and willing to do the menial day-to-day tasks. And if I don’t get everything crossed off my to-do list? Well, guess what? There is always tomorrow.
Will you start adding quiet space time to your day? I highly recommend you do and would love to hear your thoughts, so leave a comment below letting me know what activities bring you happiness and allow you to reflect!
